A Life Unlimited: Ian Usher at TEDxVienna

Ian Usher is a traveller, adventurer, writer and speaker currently based on a small island off the Caribbean coast of Panama. He was born in 1963 and spent his early years in Barnard Castle in the north east of England, before graduating with a teaching degree.
It was in 2008 that Ian gained world wide notoriety when he listed his "entire life" for sale on eBay, following the separation and subsequent divorce from his wife, Laura. During the run up to, and throughout the week of this unique eBay event, "The ALife4Sale Auction" made news all over the world.
When Ian decided that it was time to leave the past behind and move on to the next chapter of his life the results were surprising, entertaining and challenging. His plan was to sell everything in one big lot, keeping only one set of clothes, a wallet and passport, and to then head off to see where life's adventure might take him next. Armed with a list of 100 lifetime goals, and a self-imposed timeframe of 100 weeks, Ian embarked on what could truly be described as the journey of a lifetime -- a global adventure spanning six continents, two years, and almost every emotion. The extensive interest in his story enabled him to engage with people from countries around the world who joined with him in pursuit of his goals.
Following his two years of travel, Ian documented his adventures in the book "A Life Sold". Subsequently the film rights to this story were purchased by Walt Disney Pictures, who have commissioned a movie project called "Life for Sale".
Throughout his amazing journey, Ian has experienced the terrible lows of disappointment, loneliness and despair but also the amazing highs of achievement, happiness and love, which gives him a unique and inspirational outlook on life.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
