Bike Riding and the Art of Civil Society : Jay PORTER at TEDxTirana

Jay Porter is currently a Political Officer with the U.S. State Department assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Tirana, Albania. His current assignment is to monitor and report on human rights, civil society, and minority issues. Before joining the Foreign Service, Jay was a programs director with HELP International, a non-governmental development organization focused on providing college students field experience in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. He worked as a Country Director overseeing HELP International's programs in El Salvador where he worked on a variety of projects ranging from planting gardens and teaching the value of vegetables to launching an online campaign for legislative reform to provide single mother's legal recourse to recover child support from delinquent fathers.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
