Bryce Johnson is pastor at White Bear Lake United Methodist Church, where he has served since 1996. Raised in Minnesota, he attended St. Olaf College, then Yale Divinity School. He and his wife, Jody, have three sons, all graduates of Mahtomedi High School. Bryce first developed an interest in bread baking when he was a teenager. While on sabbatical in 2009, he explored historic community bread ovens in Europe. A year later, the congregation he serves built a community oven adjacent to the church. It has become central to the congregation's identity and mission.

In his TEDxMahtomedi talk, Bryce explores how bread making and baking in a wood-fired oven gives us the opportunity to slow down, discover the sacred in the ordinary, and connect with community.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
