Craig Havens: An Ending... at Night / Plovdiv 2014

Within the context of the tenth anniversary edition of the Night of Museums and Galleries in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the American artist Craig Havens presents a dual-channel display of monumental ending excerpts from the top 100 films of American cinema. The screening takes place at the Cosmos Cinema, a communist-era theater and is titled: “An Ending Is Only The Beginning Of Another Story”. “Cinema forms the foundation of post-modern visual languages and American cinema holds a key place in that history. To reveal its workings is essential to understanding American impact on world culture.” In this video we attend the opening night of the presentation.
Craig Havens is based in Brussels, Belgium and Los Angeles, California working in the mediums of photography, video, performance and sculpture. Work is concerned with the role of the monument and the use of countermonumental strategies in relation to lens-based artistic practice.
