This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Hip-hop has arrived in food justice with a combination of urban realism, smooth artistry and forward-looking idealism. In this exciting performance, Colorado's DJ Cavem Moetavation and Afropean hip hop/rhythm and blues duo Les Nubians perform a set inspired by a vision for healthy community food systems.

Straight out the garden, DJ Cavem is an O.G.: Organic Gardener, teaching hip-hop history and how to grow greens ... and not the ones you roll. He is an award winning activist, founder of the Brown Suga Youth Festival, a Green For All Fellow, B-Boy and Midwife.

The women of Les Nubians were shaped by many influences. Les Nubians has its genesis in a small town in the south west of France where the Paris-born sisters Hélène and Célia Faussart lived as teenagers after returning from several years' residence with their parents in the African country of Chad. Similarly drawn toward pertinent social commentary, Les Nubians have long been lauded for their thoughtful songs, whose lyrics provide food for thought beyond the highly danceable beats.

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
