The history of objects and inventions have changed and been changed by the history of mankind. They're two interconnected story lines. As objects become increasingly virtual and the definition of ownership changes, how must the 21st century inventor adapt?

Patrick Eischen is a Belgian engineer and co-founder of Selinko, an object identity platform.
Graduated from the University of Brussels, he describes himself as a living room engineer and dining room entrepreneur. He entered the working world just at the time the internet came to life and has never left the web and information technology since. As he has always been passionate about music, photography and design, the internet of things is his new playground.
Patrick spends most of his time doing what he likes best: being a father and managing his "crazy investments". His investments include a book publishing house (that published the largest book ever), a Tuscan wine estate, an interactive bag company and Selinko.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
