In 1972, World Chess champion Bobby Fisher achieved an Elo rating of 2785. Twelve years later, the first computer chess programmes were able to hit Elo ratings of just under 1500. By 2006, the best programmes could beat the then-best human Elo score of 2851, set by Gary Kaparov in 1999.
Today, computers can easily surpass scores of 3500, while the current all-time human record is 2882, set by Magnus Clarsen in 2014.
