Need that extra year to finish your degree? Shannon took 7! She speaks about the benefits of extending your undergraduate degree and why it is perfectly fine to not graduate in four years.

Shannon Hoekstra, a fifth year Materials Engineering major at UBC, thinks that we should challenge the status quo which limits an undergraduate education to four years. Over the course of her degree, she has not only discovered her true passion, engineering, but she has also managed to stay involved in a number of campus clubs and organizations. By telling her story, she hopes to inspire others to get involved, change their mind, and "own" their university education.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
