With negative images of Islam in the media contrasting with Muslim claims about the peaceful nature of their religion, many Americans are asking, "Will the real Islam please stand up?" In this talk, Dickson highlights Islam's roots on the American prairie before considering Islam's rich tradition of mysticism (Sufism), a tradition that is too often overlooked in American discussions of the religion.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
