28 years ago, the Mostar Bridge, also known as Stari Most, built in 1566 by the Ottoman Empire, was destroyed after a barrage of shelling from Croat forces during the Bosnian war.
It was rebuilt in 2004 in collaboration with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), UNESCO, the World Bank and IRCICA.
The bridge, which linked the Muslim and Christian halves of the city of Mostar, has stood as a symbol of brotherhood between different groups in the Balkans.
