My experiments with Phad Art to keep it alive forever | Kalyan Joshi | TEDxBhilwara

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Phad Art is a traditional form of art, belonging to Rajasthan. Since ages, this art is being continued following it's traditional method. Kalyan Joshi, through this talk shows that, what and how he experimented with this art form to keep the interest of every generation alive forever. He is contributing his best to lift up this art form and make it grow all across globe.

Phad Art is beauty and legacy of Rajasthan. Kalyan Joshi started working on Phad Art when he was of 8 years with his father, Shree Lal Joshi, world-renowned Phad artist and Padma Shree and Shilpguru award winner. Phad art is more than 700 years old. There was a time when the secrets of Phad painting were confined only to the Joshi family. Then with motive of revitalizing this art internationally, Chitrashala was founded in 1960. Kalyan Joshi has taken forward Chitrashala by experimenting on Phad Painting with new stories and Contemporary style (Collage) and line drawing . He created picture montages with expert of narrative poetry and he has done experiments with character animation. His exhibitions and workshops have been conducted around the world. Kalyan Joshi is founder of "ANKAN" Kala Sansthan, which served thousands of children with Phad paintings. During 15 years of span of ANKAN, he even organized 30 exhibitions in Bhilwara. He has been honored with Rashtrapati Puraskar by Pranab Mukherjee, President, India.
