Trey Yingst is the co-founder of News2share.com and an independent journalist based out of Washington, DC. He has reported on a number of national and international issues, in addition to covering the White House, Supreme Court and Capitol Hill. His passion for story telling and travel are evident in his recent work from Rwanda where he reported a nationally televised story for MTV about former street children in the region. This summer Yingst will be traveling back to Africa to film a documentary about the rebel group M23. For Yingst, journalism is about seizing the opportunity to tell a story, whatever that story may be.

As we look towards the future of journalism and the advancement of technology, it is important to understand the role that citizens will have in the mass media. Citizens are becoming journalists, who with the integration of social media, have the ability to connect with the world through the touch of a button. With this said, it is important to understand the power of the media and for you to raise the question, "what power do I have in the media and what obligation do I have to use that power for the well-being of others."

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
