Ünlü belgesel fotoğrafçısı Donna De Cesare, 9 Mayıs 2017 tarihinde Ankara’daydı. Texas Üniversitesi Gazetecilik Bölümü’nde doçent olarak görev yapan De Cesare, ABD kökenli çetelerin Güney Amerika’daki yayılmasını fotoğraflayarak belgelemesiyle tanınıyor.
Sunumunda, “Gazetecilik bir meslektir, bir hobi değildir, ya da sadece teknik olarak iyi olduğunuz bir şey değildir. Gazetecilik insanlara karşı sorumluluk taşımayı gerektirir. Meraklı olmadan, insanları ve dünyayı umursamadan, ve dünyayı daha iyi bir yer haline getirme arzusu olmadan gazeteci olamazsınız. Teknik olarak en iyi donanıma sahip yetenekli bir fotoğrafçı bahsettiğim değerlere sahip değilse, bence iyi bir gazeteci olması söz konusu değil. Kişinin kendisi, kamerası ya da ekipmanı değil, kişinin yetileridir insanı gazeteci yapan.”

Picturing Trauma: Challanges for Journalists – Donna De Cesare

Renowned documentary photographer Donna De Cesare came to Ankara May 9th, 2017. De Cesare, Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, is known for her groundbreaking coverage of the spread of U.S. gangs in Central America.

De Cesare said, “Journalism is a vocation, it is not just a hobby or something that you are technically proficient, you have to have a real commitment to people. You cannot be a journalist without being curious and really caring about people, and caring about the world and making the world a better place. So, some of the people who are the most proficient photographers don’t necessarily have those other qualities, so I don’t think they make good journalists. I think it is the whole person that makes the journalist; not the camera, the equipment and all that stuff, it is the person.”
