Donald Trump announced sweeping 25 percent tariffs on all foreign automobile sales at his "Make America Wealthy Again" event hosted in the White House Rose Garden on April 2.

He blamed former US presidents and their administrations for failing to "do their jobs" and necessitating these tariffs just before introducing the drastic new economic measures.
