This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. While most Norwegians think that Norway is highly respectful of human rights, Romani people are facing very serious forms of discrimination, which is accepted by the majority of the Norwegian population. Often, they escape from extreme poverty and have no social security in other European countries, a situation which is comparable to the treatment of Jewish people before the Second World War.

Hanne Dahl Vonen is a 17 year old girl from the city of Mysen in Norway, located near the country's capital Oslo. She is currently a student at the Lester B. Pearson United World College in Canada. Human rights is a passion of hers, and she became a member of Amnesty International almost three years ago.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
