The elderly Chinese mainland middle class constitutes an increasing force for product and services sales, according to a series of HKTDC Research Department reports drawing on focus group discussions with elderly consumers and adult helpers. The discussions held in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Wuhan reveal that older mainland consumers require a large range of products and services, from health care devices to health foods, stylish clothing and care or nursing home services. Hong Kong can introduce more technology-rich products and serve as an agent and trader for overseas vendors, says Billy Wong, Principal Economist, Greater China, HKTDC.
