As Auguste Comte said two centuries ago, "Demography is destiny". Even he, however, couldn't foresee the massive changes occurring at breakneck speed in our world. This talk will explore the intersection of consumer technology with medical devices and their collision-- or perhaps synergy-- with our aging species. From phones to goggles to prostheses to avatars, we will ask ourselves, "What is it that makes us...us?"

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
