Todd Richmond is head of the Advanced Prototypes Group at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies. By day he creates advanced prototypes of digital systems and virtual humans and by night he plays a mean Bass Guitar. He has some really interesting observations and few warnings for all of us analog souls as we continue to immerse ourselves in digital worlds.

At the ICT, Richmond works in a variety of areas including: future environments for communication and collaboration, counter-IED training systems involving video narrative and multiplayer gaming; intel-related training; immersive technologies; interactive education including serious games and simulations; visualization, messaging, and media as agents of change. He also is a writer, photographer, and filmmaker. On the music tip, he has studied with Grammy-winning bassist Victor Wooten and currently performs and records with variety bands including his group nostatic.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
