This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Dr. Aue discusses the bifurcation of organic molecules along a reaction mechanism and what that means for organic chemists.

Dr. Aue received his B. Sc. at The Ohio State University and Ph.D. at Cornell University in 1967 and joined the UC Santa Barbara faculty in 1968. Dr. Aue has been a National Research Council Senior Research Associate at the Environmental Protection Agency. He is currently studying the basicity of organic hydrocarbons to determine the stabilities of ions and the acidities and basicities of relatively non-volatile biological molecules such as amino acids, peptides and nucleotides. Mass spectrometric and GCMS techniques provide the thermodynamic data needed to determine the effect of solvation on biological molecules.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
