Connect tools, access & DIY experiences to end slavery: Evonne Heyning at TEDxBlackRockCity

We have the tools, the learning resources and the devices needed to provide free learning to everyone on the planet. So what's stopping us? This talk aligns the free learning toolkit, over 20 different companies working on aspects of the free learning ecosystem with device and access providers, NGOs, governments and educational service providers around the world, calling for a FREE LEARNERS movement to grow DIY learning opportunities for everyone. By aligning the free and low cost resources already available we could be providing an alternative education to millions on this planet - and nearly a billion people on this planet are not currently served by a school or system for learning in their area.
This talk calls for tech and educational leaders to join together to provide free learning to everyone on this planet at a cost of $10B-$20B over the next three years to meet the UN's Millennium Development Goals of providing a primary education for everyone on this planet. We're 90% of the way there and this is a goal we can meet with coordinated effort across fields and sectors.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
