Convoys of protesters from across Peru have set off for the capital, Lima, as part of a widespread anti-government mobilisation. President Dina Boluarte has extended a state of emergency in an attempt to maintain order.
The decree suspends constitutional rights such as freedom of movement and assembly. At least 49 people have died in the protests since early December, when former president Pedro Castillo was ousted from office and then jailed.Claire Herriot reports.
