This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In former times our elders were a source of knowledge and experience, a resource to turn to. Today the times are different and technology takes it's place often leaving the younger generation to teach the older.
Ken discusses the pace of modern life and the opportunity for generations to come together in a spirit of hope.

A retired psychiatrist with an interest in the healing power of writing, Wanaka-based Kenneth Bragan is the author of five books, including The Making of a Saint: A Psychological Study of the Life of Thomas Merton and Is There Still a Place for God? He grew up in a northern English coal-mining town, studied medicine at Edinburgh University and completed a specialist qualification in psychiatry after immigrating to New Zealand with his family—a journey that led his to a job at the Seacliffe asylum, where Janet Frame had been a patient. It was through a study of her life, illness and work that he began to focus on how writing could serve as a recovery tool, a way out of grief and of madness. He continues to explore issues of psychiatry and literature in his work.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
