At the age of two, Clement Chiwaya contracted polio and lost the use of his legs. Through assistance, he moved from Malawi to Grand Rapids, Mich. where he graduated in 2002 from Aquinas College. He currently serves as a member of parliament and chief whip of the United Democratic Front.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
