A former Duke and Temple University professor, turned professional banker, Dr. Lim Mah-Hui has seen from the inside how the combination of a powerful economic sector and systemic inequality create a vicious cycle of financial crises and growing inequality. Dr. Lim makes some suggestions for how to correct this situation, and urges strongly that changes in our global economic system are a pressing responsibility of the current generation, but in this talk Dr. Lim seeks primarily to explain in a scientific fashion things that he feels are crucial to understand about the financial sector and some basic macroeconomics so that we have the tools required to make the necessary changes.

Interestingly, Dr. Lim was a professor to fellow TEDxQujiang presenter Laurence Brahm, and it was at his urging years ago that Laurence came to China to begin with to begin his career here.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
