Mike Canning is the CEO of Duke Corporate Education (Duke CE), the number one ranked global provider of custom executive education by Financial Times and BusinessWeek for 11 straight years. In this role, Mike guides Duke CE's education activities to develop leaders across 72 countries to shape a better world. Most recently, Mike has been part of creating Duke CE's Next GEN! Leadership Development -- a new kind of learning experience designed to "rewire" leaders to meet the challenges of today's world. Over the past year he has coordinated the organization's 2013 CEO Study and from its findings built new thinking on the key "senseabilities" required to lead in our new world of rapid, unpredictable and disruptive change. Mike has also developed a unique body of knowledge and tools that address the key challenges of leaders in the middle of an organization. This work led to the publication of an eight-volume book series, Leading from the Center, which he co-authored. Prior to joining Duke CE in 2001, Mike worked as an independent consultant in the San Francisco Bay area. He focused on designing and implementing strategic change, building organizational capability and leadership development for a range of clients. Mike previously worked for the international division of The Coca-Cola Company in operations, strategy/capability development, and employee and industrial relations. He has travelled and worked extensively in a multitude of countries and cultures across Europe, Latin America, North America, Africa, and Asia.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Finance from William Paterson University in New Jersey, and a J.D. from the University of Bridgeport (Conn.) School of Law.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
