Indonesia is the country with the most mangroves in the world, which are vital for absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it. But over the past decades, many of the country’s mangroves have been destroyed.

Protections are now in place in some areas, but illegal logging is a problem. Many locals do not have any other means to support themselves and their families, and therefore continue to chop wood from the mangroves.
