A native of Dayton and a graduate of Fairview High School, Michael Lieberman has been the Washington Counsel for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) since January 1989. ADL has been fighting anti-Semitism, racism and all forms of bigotry through advocacy and anti-bias education programs since 1913. Michael previously worked for two members of Congress, including former Dayton-area representative Tony Hall. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Duke Law School, where he served as a member of the Duke Law Journal. He has helped draft hate crime and bullying prevention laws and led the broad coalition of civil rights, religious, law enforcement and civic organizations that worked for 13 years to enact the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. He will discuss how, while we cannot outlaw hate, we can change attitudes and behaviors by working together — making a positive difference in our families and communities.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
