Calliopi Mavroyiannis studied electronics engineering in Paris and Dublin and she is a high school Design and Technology teacher. A mother and wife of a Cypriot diplomat, she has lived in Dublin, Paris, New York and Brussels. She is a devoted member in numerous volunteer organisations. Moreover, her passion for sailing has placed her on the far reaches of the planet and made her a member of a competitive sailing team, as well as a member of the Board of the Cyprus Sailing Federation.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
