So what do middle school students actually hear — and remember — about the morning announcements? Announcements are believed to build community while informing students about their school. But do students really listen? And how can we — as educators — do it differently to make the morning announcements more meaningful? Jeff Haney is Director of Internal Communications for Canyons School District.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
