Richard is a Dutch national with Afghan roots, with experience working on economic development in the European periphery. Richard has guest-lectured on the reemergence of China and subsequent global implications at academia in The Netherlands. He holds a MBA from Wuhan University of Technology and a MPA in development studies from China's Tsinghua University. Richard is currently a fellow at the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) in Kabul.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
