With the exhibition Conceptual and Applied III: Surfaces and Pattern, Daimler Art Contemporary in Berlin, Germany, is continuing its series of exhibitions that focus on artists who have worked on the borders between free and applied disciplines. The current exhibition presents artists and designers with aesthetic concepts in the border area of art and design with a specific focus on surfaces, and pattern. The show features works by the artists Bruno Munari, Tapio Wirkkala, Lina Bo Bardi, Gio Ponti, Egon Eiermann, Benni Efrat, Luca Trevisani, Natalie Czech, Susan Hefuna and Sol LeWitt. In this video we attend the opening reception of the exhibition, and curator Renate Wiehager provides us with an introduction to the exhibition. The show runs until November 2, 2014.
The first two exhibitions were devoted to fine artists who work within the transition to architecture, product and graphic design (Minimalism and Applied I, 2007) and to a dialogue between eminent early exponents of architecture and furniture design with worldwide recognized contemporary artists (Minimalism And Applied II, 2010).
