Rescuing and saving people in the water is always difficult. Often the jet-skis, boats or paddle boards are too clumsy or expensive for lifeguards to use consistently, and the lack of custom-built or affordable equipment puts thousands of lives at risks every year.

Determined to find a practical solution, Ross spent months speaking with lifeguards and safety experts across the country. After countless nights working away his tent, he created a solar-powered paddleboard with the support of Richard Reed (founder of Innocent Smoothies) and Richard Branson.

In a short talk, Ross shares his story and advice for solving real-world problems in a hands-on practical way.
