Vietnam may be a good alternative production base for Hong Kong-based companies trying to cope with rising wages and labour shortages on the Chinese mainland. Dickson Ho, HKTDC Principal Economist for Asian and Emerging Markets, says that while moving away from coastal areas of China is a first option, some sectors may benefit from considering ASEAN countries.
