It all started when a man disguised as an old woman in a wheelchair rolled into the Louvre Museum and smeared Leonardo da Vinci’s treasured ‘Mona Lisa’ with cake and was heard saying, “Think of planet Earth, there are people destroying it."

Over time, the symbolic act gave way to a rising tide of ‘eco-vandalism,’ which saw attacks conducted by eco-activists on numerous paintings, including ‘Sunflowers’ by Van Gogh, ‘Girl With a Pearl Earring’ by Vermeer, and more recently, ‘Death and Life’ by Gustav Klimt.
