This presentation features a speech given July 18, 1942 by Dr. Edward Clark of the Willow Grove community at the last meeting of all the citizens of the Dale Hollow Reservoir area and their guests. This speech was recorded by Mrs. Newt Odom who served as secretary to Mr. Newt Odom who worked with the Clay County Extension Service and the Extension Service of the University of Tennessee in helping displaced residents to locate to new farms and homes. The introduction and description of Mr. Clarks speech was documented by Charles Vaughn, County Agent, Clay County. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District does not have a date when Mr. Vaughn made this record but it is post 1967 or 1968 as it was found typed along with a promotional note regarding the Willow Grove 1968 Homecoming. The construction of Dale Hollow Dam would require the displacement of many residents who lived in the Obey River Valley. In celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Dale Hollow Dam in 2018, this video serves to commemorate those who sacrificed so much so that the region would benefit from the purposes of the dam and powerplant. #DaleHollowDam75 (USACE Video)
