Fidelma Meehan was brought up in Belcoo, County Fermanagh and moved to London in 1988 after graduating from the University of Ulster. She has a background in journalism and has presented Pause for Thought on the popular Wake up to Wogan show on BBC Radio 2, and on the BBC World Service. She moved to Swindon in 1998 where she co-founded an empowerment project for young people aimed at cultivating their potential to become contributors to society. Today the project is established in 25 schools in the town. More recently she has been involved in adapting and piloting the programme as a tool for culture change and transformation within organisations.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
