An accomplished biologist, Erika is working to protect the fragile wilderness of South America's Gran Chaco region. Her pragmatic approach to local conservation is to train indigenous hunters as 'parabiologists', combining traditional instinct with modern scientific knowledge, and empowering people to become stewards of their own land. Cuéllar hopes this model can be extended throughout the world so that other endangered ecosystems can be protected by those who know the environment best.In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
