Aerial silk is a type of performance in which one or more artists perform aerial acrobatics while hanging from a special fabric. Performers climb the suspended fabric without the use of safety lines, and rely only on their training and skill to ensure safety. They use the fabric to wrap, suspend, fall, swing, and spiral their bodies into and out of various positions. This video features Miki Adderley's performance prior to giving her talk ""Grasping the fantasy -- boundary extensions with aerial silking adventures"" at TEDxZurich.

Miki Adderley is an engineer, working full time in a global project construction company for the last 10 years. She has had a diverse engineering career which in the past has included working in mechanical engineering design, vehicle crash investigation simulations, sales & tendering of air pollution control systems for power stations, power plant performance testing and commissioning. Since settling into Switzerland 3 years ago, Miki has been training teams around the world in sales system processes, but has also gained an attraction to social entrepreneurship, and began for the first time to explore a taste for experiencing various adventure hobbies, which lead her to invent some surprising new activities with some unexpected combined twists of her own. Most recently she walked on the wings of a biplane in mid-flight, and has started learning how to fly a hot air balloon.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
