The exhibition External Memory -- Internal History at Stadtgalerie Mannheim in Germany presents two young protagonists of conceptual intermedia art. Prague based Štěpánka Sigmundová and Jan Vlček from Pilzeň. Sigmundová shows her installation External Memory, an ever growing series of photographs, 9,933 of which are on display at the Stadtgalerie Mannheim. The artist obsessively documents everything she deems to be important for her work and thus creates an objectivized form of memory. Vlček shows paintings and objects from his series of battles, war symbols, bunkers and partisans. The artist is interested in the transformation of historiography and criticizes the way history is looked at as linear and disregarded in its complexity. The show runs until July 13, 2014.

Štepánka Sigmundová (1990) is an obsessive collector of objects and stories which form her remembering, external memory and subjective experience. In a series of works the artist accentuates different interpretations and views of personal narratives. In parallel she maps and emphasizes processes in her own environment in relation to the public sphere. Her latest exhibitions include: Jelení Gallery, Prague (2014); Museum of Contemporary Art Wrocław (2013); Šaloun On A Walk, Antik Shop Krymská, Prague (2013); Into The Minds Of Choices, 35m2, Prague (2012); Praha/Rennes, Anne Frank Memorial, Brno (2012); Behind The Spines Of The Books I have Not Read, Hvězda Summer Pavilion, Prague (2011). Štěpánka Sigmundová lives and works in Prague.

Jan Vlček (1977) was born in Plzeň and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2005). His latest exhibitions include: Red Gallery, London (2014); Trafačka Gallery, Prague (2013); Weltecho Gallery, Chemnitz (2013); Tate Modern, (as member of Ztohoven Group) at the Starr Auditorium, London (2013); Via Art Gallery, Prague (2012); National Gallery, Prague (2012); Embassy of the Czech Republic, Berlin (2012); Lalit Kala Academy Art Gallery, New Delhi, Indie (2011); Kunsthale Wien, Vienna (2007) and Jelení Gallery, Prague (2005). Jan Vlček participated at the International Triennale of Contemporary Art, Prague (2008) and International Biennale of Contemporary Art, Prague (2005). Jan Vlček lives and works in Prague and Pilsen.
