Giving with Expectations: Damon Jiggetts at TEDxGraceStreet

Damon Jiggetts is the executive director of Peter Paul Development Center in Richmond, Virginia.

"The community I serve is characterized as one of the densest concentrations of poverty in the country. Richmond is recognized as one of the most philanthropic metropolitan areas in the country. Our community's capacity to give is not only enabling the recipients but stripping them of their self-worth. I'd like to challenge us to expect more from those we serve and urge us to collectively find ways for our respective service populations to contribute back to their communities, re-instilling pride and self-worth."

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
