Is diplomacy really going digital?: Moira Whelan at TEDxStockholmSalon 2014

Moira Whelan has been in national security communications in the United States for over a decade. Currently she serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Digital Strategy at the U.S. Department of State where she oversees the Department's flagship social media accounts, website and broadcast platforms. She has previously served in government communications positions at the U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and at the Select Committee on Homeland Security in the U.S. House of Representatives. She has also worked at think tanks and academic institutions including the National Security Network, Harvard's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
