Creating a Community with a Growth Mindset

Jeremy Frith and Rachel Sykes explain the research of Professor Carol Dweck on Mindsets and how they impact on whether individuals become their very best. They explain their vision for an island of 65,000 people becoming a community of growth minded individuals where everyone believes their abilities can change, develop and grow. Through a project which started in Education and Sport they are helping people across all areas of the community to identify their beliefs about their abilities and to challenge any fixed mindsets. The impact of this work is evidenced and they explain how the behaviours of growth minded individuals are more likely to ensure creativity, innovation, learning, performance and success, thus enabling the island to become the best place to live on earth.

Rachel Sykes has been an Educational Psychologist (EP) for 13 years and currently works as an EP for the States of Guernsey and provides psychological support for the Guernsey Sports Commission's High Performance Programme. Jeremy Frith is a former county cricketer and ECB Level 4 Coach, now Performance Director with the Guernsey Sports Commission.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
