This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Bluhm talks about the challenges and possibilities of Quantum Computing. He presents the basic concepts of using quantum properties to encode and process much more information than possible with classical computers.

Prof. Dr. Hendrik Bluhm received his Ph.D. in Physics in 2008 from Stanford University and subsequently held a postdoc position at Harvard University. He was appointed as a full professor of Physics at RWTH Aachen University in 2011. His main research activities lie in the development and study of semiconductor spin qubits for quantum information processing. In addition, he is developing and using scanning techniques (in particular scanning SQUID microscopy) to study spin physics, mesoscopic physics, and quantum coherence. Hendrik Bluhm is the recipient of the Alfred-Krupp Prize for Young University Teachers 2011.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
