Re-creation Through Recreation: Perry Martin at TEDxVirginiaTech

Perry Martin serves as Senior Associate Director of Community Learning for VT Engage: the Community-Learning Collaborative. A native and resident of the small rural community of Newport, VA in Giles County, Martin worked with a group of parents and community volunteers to establish t-ball, coach pitch, and softball teams in his community during the summer of 2013. His talk, "Re-creation Through Recreation," is a personal reflection on how community is revitalized through community-based sports and how youth baseball and softball serves as a link between generations and community members from a variety of backgrounds.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
