Wilson, who has lived with HIV for 34 years, says access to affordable healthcare is critical in the fight against HIV/AIDS. In this clip, he explains why poverty and HIV/AIDS are inextricably linked.

Tonight on PBS, I sit down with Phill Wilson, founder, president and CEO of the Black AIDS Institute. As we approach World AIDS Day on December 1, Wilson reminds us that despite scientific breakthroughs, African Americans account for 44 percent of new infections, even though they make up only 14 percent of the population.
