Sóley and Fjóla share with us two perspectives, of the organizer and the student, about the need and the value of interdisciplinary education for students at the school of health sciences at the University of Iceland.
Sóley is a Professor at the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Iceland and a former dean of that faculty. She has a MS degree in family planning administration from the University of Minnesota and a PhD from the University of Iceland where she focused her thesis on adolescent pregnancy. She has over the last four years been leading the preparation of the interprofessional educational program for students in the school of health sciences at the University of Iceland. Through the years she has been working in many national and international interprofessional teams.
Fjóla is a 5th year medical student at the University of Iceland and has for the last year been the chairman of the Icelandic Medical Student Organization. She has worked in various health care workplaces, and sat on the board of the Icelandic Medical Student Association's committee of public health for three years.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
