Candace Robertson-James, DrPH is an assistant professor of medicine in the Office of Urban Health Equity, Education and Research and research manager at the Women's Health Education Program, Drexel University College of Medicine. She received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Villanova University, Master of Public Health from MCP Hahnemann University and Doctor of Public Health from Drexel University School of Public Health. Dr. Robertson-James has participated in research involving health promotion interventions addressing disparate health outcomes and the role of intersecting inequalities and subjective social status in health disparities. Additionally, she developed and implemented a health educational program for women in prison. Dr. Robertson-James has led the Philadelphia Ujima Health Initiative, a community participatory research program that successfully utilized a gender informed model to improve participants' adherence to screening recommendations and health behaviors in underserved communities. When she isn't working, Dr. Robertson-James can be found playing with her two children, Nalani and Alex, and spending time with her amazing husband and family, undoubtedly the best part of any day. She received the 2010 Villanova University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Alumni Medallion for demonstrating excellence in her professional endeavors and commitment to the values and ideals of Villanova and the Cup of Tea award for service to community, in a way that exemplifies leadership, and one who is passionate about improving the quality of life for all. Her ultimate goal is to serve passionately, promote endearing change and to leave a lasting impression that will inspire action.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
