Imagine if you were able to be the best at whatever you wanted! Be it mastering a language, working out complicated mathematical equations, or being able to paint with the skills of van Gogh or Rembrandt -- it's all attainable.
It wouldn't be surprising if you thought that this was an introduction to a Tel Sell commercial playing in the background of sci-fi movie -- but it may in fact be possible in the very near future.
At TEDxDelft 2013, the world-renowned brain-professor dr. Maarten Frens shares his expertise and experiences with Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS); a ground-breaking technique that could enable us to be, well... Limitless. In short, tDCS is a form of neurostimulation which uses constant, low current delivered directly to certain brain areas of interest.
As an authority in the field of "brain enhancement", Maarten used double-blind experiments, meaning neither the person carrying out the experiment nor the subject knew that they were being stimulated. Thanks to his research and findings Maarten has gotten to the bottom of so called "electrical doping". At TEDxDelft Maarten will share all his fascinating findings and unveil if we have a smarter, stronger, faster and more creative future ahead of us.
So could we see a future where athletes get caught with using tDCS to enhance their talents at the 2016 Olympics? Or where students take cheating to an entirely new level?
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
