THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION ENCOURAGES YOU TO DISCOVER NATURE. THIS DECEMBER, HANG A BIRD FEEDER AND INVITE OUR FEATHERED FRIENDS TO FEAST.
ONE AND A HALF MILLION MISSOURIANS ENJOY BIRD FEEDING. WATCHING A BIRD IN FLIGHT OR ENJOYING A MEAL OF SUNFLOWER SEEDS CAN BRIGHTEN A COLD WINTER DAY.
BIRD FEEDING STATIONS MAY BE AS SIMPLE AS SEED PLACED ON THE GROUND OR AS COMPLICATED AS A FEEDER MADE FOR A SPECIFIC SPECIES.
THE MOST COMMONLY RECOGNIZED BIRD IN MISSOURI IS THE CARDINAL, WHICH WILL BE ONE OF THE FIRST SPECIES TO DISCOVER A NEW FEEDER.
PURPLE FINCHES AND AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES, ARE ALSO COMMON TO SEE.
TRY TO PLACE YOUR FEEDER NEAR TREES, SHRUBS OR FLOWERS THAT PRODUCE FOOD AND PROVIDE COVER. TO ATTRACT MORE BIRDS, FURNISH WATER—PREFERABLY YEAR-ROUND. FOR MORE BIRDING TIPS, VISIT MDC DOT MO DOT GOV
FOR MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO DISCOVER NATURE THIS MONTH CHECK OUT THESE EVENTS AT THE CAPE GIRARDEAU CONSERVATION NATURE CENTER.
