A working life at the edge: Jim Dixon at TEDxDerby

Jim has worked in the countryside for 30 years, as a research biologist and then with the RSPB, English Nature and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. In 2003 he was appointed chief executive of the Peak District National Park Authority. He has been lead officer for the 15 UK National Parks for four years and has developed partnerships with brands such as Reckitt Benckiser. He is currently leading the UK Countryside is GREAT partnership with Visit Britain, a flagship government campaign showcasing the British countryside to overseas visitors. He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas and a school governor.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
